Thirley Cotes Farm is set in 17 acres of stunning countryside on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Within our grounds we have a 4 acre Natural Woodland, with a small stream meandering through it, that continues across the front of the main house. We are a Wildlife haven, perfect for the keen wildlife lover. We have established our own Wildlife Pond, which is home to many species of bird and animal, enticing visitors such as Herons. The Wildlife Pond is fenced off and is away from the play areas, but within easy reach for those wishing to explore.
Guests wishing to explore further afield will not be disappointed, as a 45 minute drive will take you to the Historic City of York, home to the Jorvik Centre, Castle Museum, The Maze, Clifford’s Tower, National Railway Museum to mention only a few!
For the fun loving and adventurous, a day out at Flamingo Land, or even ‘Go Ape’ at Dalby Forest, perfect for the energetic, or cyclist…..but even for the peace and tranquillity, a fantastic location for a picnic setting too. Dalby activities include archery and orienteering, as well as excellent cycle tracks for the novice and professional.
Head to the Coast, with Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington, only 30 minutes away, and nearer to home……Scarborough, full of fun and adventure for all ages! Take a ride on the lake around Peasholm Park, check out the fantastic acts that have been coming to Scarborough Open Air Theatre, including ‘Olly Murs’, JLS, Leona Lewis, McFly and Russell Watson...
Ideal days out may also include; Pickering, Grosmont, the home to the North York Moors Railway. Hutton le Hole, home to the Ryedale Folk Museum, or the beauty of Thornton le Dale, many of these little villages have a great deal to offer the tourist.
We have a great selection of local maps, walks and cycle information within the games area and it is for all of our Guests to use during their stay. We can also arrange for Local Walks and Cycle Days, along some of the great tracks in the North York Moors National Park. Nature Tours and Photography Workshops can also be arranged for groups of keen Nature Enthusiasts. Fylindales Moor offer guided walks and educational days, all managed by the Hawk and Owl Trust. For those keen on Water Sports, Scarborough Bay offers excellent conditions for Sailing, Canoeing and Wind / Surfing. However, if you prefer the calmer conditions, then we are located a 15 minute drive away from Wykeham Lake Watersports, where many of the mentioned activities are available. Courses are available, learn to sail, windsurf or canoe! They also include Team Building Courses that include the Watersport Activities, so whether for Business or Pleasure, we can provide the base for your stay.
We are able to provide stabling at neighbouring Curly Tail Stables for up to 3 horses, for those guests wishing to take advantage of the stunning bridleways surrounding this area, further details available on request.
We really are a central location to all you can want to explore on any holiday.

Sewerby Park with Hall and Gardens. There are animals where you can feed at set times, a childs play area, Golf Course, Putting, Land Train to Bridlington Seafront, and a local pub that serves food also.
Flamborough Head & Bempton, visit the stunning fishing village of Flamborough, with its lighthouse and rock faces, just along the coast is Bempton home to the RSPB site, where you can see the habitats of many coastal species of nesting birds. Nature Tours and Photography Workshops are available within the area, (please ask us for booking details).
Peasholm Park, is in Scarborough and in 2012 it celebrated its Centenary Year. Stunning gardens set around a large lake, where you can leisurely view whilst in your swan pedalo or canoe. Evening and daytime entertainment takes place, not forgetting the Naval Warfare event, which has submarines and warships operated by individuals.
Horse Riding is available for the keen rider, approximately 15 minutes away, you may need to book in advance, but this can be arranged for you if required.
Eden Camp and Sledmere House, both steeped with history are only a 45 minute drive away.
